Changing the fuel filter (clogged, presumably by a load of by dirty fuel), cleaning out fuel tank (small but apparently not unreasonable amounts of crud), testing Low Pressure Fuel Pumps (flow rate tested OK, twice - once in Alice Springs, once back in Adelaide), we bit the bullet and had our HPFP replaced on the advice of the indi where the
Where is the crank sensor located in a 2001 land rover discovery. a fuel filter is on a landrover discovery tdv6. big 4x4s like the discovery 3 tdv6.
Borrow a fuel pressure gauge and drive around with it cable tied to the windscreen wiper. If the pressure tanks when the fault occurs then you might have a LPFP fault or blocked filter or blocked pipework. If it doesn't then it's potentially a HPFP fault. I have a gauge if you want to borrow one to test with.
1. Faulty oil temperature sensor in the sump indicating the oil temp was -3degC; 2. Fuel rail pressure fault - low fuel pressure at 3000rpm. The faulty oil temp sensor may or may not have had anything to do with it, but he says the low fuel pressure means a faulty high pressure fuel pump - and it's apparently very expensive (and difficult) to
LR010075 - 2.7 TDV6 Fuel Filter for Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport - Fits Vehicles up to 2007. This style of fuel filter was fitted to Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3 vehices up to 2007. I was replaced by a later style of fuel filter from 7A000001 Chassis Number onwards. If you require the later filter then please find it here: LR009705. The fuel filter on the TDV6 is located behind the fuel cooler at the rear of the engine. It is mounted inboard of, and attached to, the RH chassis rail. The filter element is within a housing which is held in position by a horizontal clamp via a bolt & nut.
Could also be a blocked fuel filter or low pressure fuel pump issue, which is in the fuel tank. Both these options are cheaper than a HPFP replacement so are worth investigation. Interrogation of fault codes is the key. This thread is worth reading: D4 3.0 P0087 Fault This second thread didn't have a final conclusion unfortunately but may help.
Remove the oil pressure sensor, REFER to: Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Sensor (303-14A Electronic Engine Controls - TDV6 2.7L Diesel, Removal and Installation). Connect a suitable oil pressure gauge in place of the oil pressure sensor. Start the engine and check for leaks at the gauge connection. tkNC.
