The Canon 24-70mm f/4L IS USM Lens from Canon is optimized for full-frame 35mm sensors, and another entry into Canon’s high quality L-series of lenses. It has two Super Ultra-low Dispersion (Super UD) and two standard UD lens elements working together to minimize chromatic aberrations, and reduce color blurring around the edges of your subject.
The Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM ($1,499 list)($899.00 at Amazon) is a wide-to-short telephoto zoom lens for Canon cameras. It's noticeably smaller than the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, a lens that I have recently purchased a Canon 70D, upgrading from a 40D that had some issues after years of intensive use. I still have my Canon 17-85 EF-S IS lens however I feel that the lens is too soft and is not as sharp as I would like. I was wondering if upgrading to a 24-70 F/4L IS USM is wise choice? I found it on Amazon for roughly $1,000.

A primary downside to consider when selecting an f/4 lens is that twice as much light is required to stop camera and subject action. Summary The other lenses I use most frequently are Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras and Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras. This lens is very sharp, and captures excellent colors, which I have come to expect from L-series lenses. So professionals and those who want a walk around lens for travel and portraits with superior optics should consider the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8. Just a quick review here after doing quite a bit of varied shooting with this lens using the Canon 6D only. For those wanting the best performance out of it, i.e. most sharpness and least amount of distortions, shoot f/5.6 and higher. XoBVX1O.
