The steps on how to Tech-Bond the joint to stop the leak are listed below. The surfaces must be dry. Abrade both the PVC pipe surface and the edge of the coupling. Thoroughly clean both surfaces. There cannot be any dirt, grease, or residue. Apply a bead of the Si Black along the entire seam of the joint.
Cut the pipe at the nail hole. If you have enough room to flex down one side, slather on the cement and quikly slide the repair coupling all the way onto one side of the pipe. Apply the product as follows: Small leaks: apply directly onto pipework. Burst pipes or larger leaks: apply liberally onto a cloth and wrap tightly around the pipe. Replace the cap immediately to prevent the remaining product from curing inside the tube. Spray the sealant with water to aid the curing process. The top union joint is ok, though I had to tighten that one too pretty well with a pipe wrench before it stopped leaking. Bottom union is at 100 PSI water pressure, top is at 55 PSI. The branch to the left after the pressure regulator goes to irrigation subsystem. The pipe to the top continues and becomes the main water supply for the house.
Step 4: Replace Valve. Unscrew the union nut that attaches the valve to the radiator, then unscrew the valve from the pipe. Take the old valve to a plumbing and heating supply store to find an exact replacement; check carefully to ensure it will fit. But when the leak is sealed, it’s usually a permanent fix. However, leaks in pipe cracks or volumetric joints may be subject to vibration or pressure expansion and so might not be permanently sealed.
